Weekend Mobile | November 10 – November 12

12.11.12

On Friday, I asked what everyone had planned for the weekend. Here’s my answer.

1. We started our weekend off with a party. (We brought some super yummy, mini apple pies.) Who doesn’t love a party?!? Especially when you get to celebrate another great GU9 soccer season. I’m very proud of my little soccer player. Isabella has always been apprehensive when playing against much bigger opponents. I don’t blame her, I would be a little afraid going up against someone bigger/taller than me, haha. But this season, she pushed passed that and did awesome – and scored a ton of goals!

2. No, I am not wearing leopart print fleece pants. Our Saturday morning because with an early basketball tournament game. It was cold in there! Even with my coffee and blanket, I was freezing! Definitely not typical for indoor sports. But that didn’t bother Ben’s team. They finished the day 2-0, going against some pretty tough competition.

3. One thing I will truly miss is the drive home on the Alaskan Way Viaduct. Once construction begins, we will love one of the most beautiful ways to view Seattle. Which is made even more beautiful with the Great Wheel. Sigh.

4. Love that the Seattle Seahawks gave veterans near and far a shout out and a win!

5. Continuing our West Seattle tradition, another visit to Bakery Nouveau for some cookies for the kids and Half – Bakeds for me.

6. In the midst of a 2 tournament weekend, we were able to celebrate with one of our favorite one year old cowboys! We were treated to delicious food and our favorite balloon artist, The Balloon Baffoon. Having 4 kids, we’ve seen our share of balloon men and women. He can make anything – monkeys on trees, aliens, ladybug bracelets, fishing poles, and my favorite, an octopus complete with tentacles!

Whatever you guys did, I hope that it was awesome!

Finally Feeling Fall

0

02.11.12

With the long and dry summer that the Northwest was blessed with, it has taken me a while to start feeling fall. All these fall-ish things are happening around me – back-to-school, fall sports, ombre leaves, trips to the pumpkin patch, a night full of ghouls and ghosts – and I am just now starting to feel it. An island get-away probably didn’t help, haha.

Now that I’ve fully embraced ‘sweater weather,’ I’m ready for all the other fun things that this time of the year brings. Colder nights that require extra snuggles. Cooler weather that requires excessive amounts of baking to make you feel all warm and happy inside. The return of Starbucks Caramel Brulee Latte. And my most favorite holiday, Thanksgiving!

Next Tuesday marks the return of my Thankful Tuesday series. So much to be thankful for this year, feeling super blessed!

Here’s hoping you have a wonderful weekend!

It was a cold and wet weekend, my friends. But it was still filled with sugar (lots of it) and spice, and glitter and lots of fun! I hope that your weekend was equally awesome!

[Said in creepy voice. Just kidding] We’re back! I had every intention of blogging the rest of our summer. But you know what? We just had way too much fun. Enjoying each others’ company. Enjoying the beautiful summer sun. And then, school happened – times 4!

The first day of school has come and gone. All the kids are doing great! With Eleanor now in Pre-K 5 days a week, I actually find that I have time to take a shower most days. Between our school schedule and our activity schedule, I feel that life will be less of a juggle and more of a balance. I am really hopeful that this means I will be more inspired and more productive creatively! And maybe, just maybe, more time spent on this little blog of mine.

Here’s a quick recap of our super wonderful summer and the beginning of my favorite season – Autumn!

-All of the kids are back in school and are doing awesome! One more year, and all of my babies will be in school full time.

-Caleb entered the double-digits and turned 10!

-Eleanor is still sassy as ever!

-We figured out where the girls get their posing skills from – me! New head shots done by the wonderful Jessica May Photography!

-Eleanor got her ears pierced! Not a tear in sight!

-We visited the Puyallup Fair, and indulged in some Funnel Cake. Yum!

-Who says my kids are the only ones who can learn something new this year? Can’t wait to dive into Joy’s new book!

-The girls rode the rides at the Fair this year. They loved it. And we loved watching them smile and squeal with delight.

-The power of text message enabled us to get together and eat ice cream and spend time with our Tita (Aunt) Linda before she heads back to Canada.

-Chelan. I’m not sure if I can find the words that describe how awesome our staycation was. Let’s just say, we plan to do the same exact this next year! Lake Chelan, we love you!

Knock Knock…

…who’s there? Obviously not me the past two days! Boy that was corny, but it’s the truth.

Something that I’ve been struggling with lately is balance. Or more accurately, the juggle, as one of my favorite bloggers puts it. I LOVE the flexibility my job affords me. It allows me to stay at home with my kids while doing something creative and new everyday. It also allows me to be able to bring them to practice and dance class. I get to watch all of their games and recitals. And for that I’m so very thankful. That is something that I hope they remember when they are all grown – my mom was always there.

I hope they don’t remember the times I’m stressed out with work deadlines and am as not fun as normal. The times I’m too busy to make an awesome dinner and we have to have pizza – I have a feeling that they don’t mind being forced to eat pizza. But you get the point.

Enjoying the rest of the summer, planning birthday parties, work deadlines, and getting ready for back to school have all caught up to me these past two days. I think I am fully recovered from the exhaustion that only stress can cause. Now we can fully enjoy the remaining days of our summer. The last few days before the kids begin a new school year, and start another awesome adventure.

Now it make seem that these past couple of weeks have been stress-city. Honestly, they haven’t been. They have mostly been filled with fun and happy times. It was filled with moments like this.

And this. Mom’s 60th Birthday Party.

And this, LOL. Isabella’s 8th birthday.

I look back at these past few days as a gentle reminder to stop and smell the roses. Because even in times when you feel super stressed out, there is always something to smile about. You just have to look for it.

Random Notes to My 8yo Girl

“You is kind. You is smart. You is important.” -Aibileen Clark, The Help (Photo by Amy B. Photography)

Let’s face it, being a girl is hard sometimes. It’s especially hard when you have two older brothers who like to pick on you from time to time, and a little sister that loves you so much that it’s sort of too much. If there is such a thing. That is what you have to deal with every day, Isabella. And you do an awesome job!

I love that you are your own person. Always remember that just because someone says something doesn’t make it true. Take a moment to step back and think about it. Chances are people are just talking crazy talk. The only opinion that matters is your own, and God’s.

I love that you have become such a bookworm. I’m so happy that I can share some of my favorite girlhood books with you! Your brothers weren’t very excited about Strawberry Girl, for obvious reasons.

I love that you’ve becoming such a great dancer. It makes me super, super happy to see you doing something that I love. And loving it, too!

I am excited to watch you grown as a gymnast. Even though it makes me a little sad at the same time. Because one day you will have to decide between dance and gymnastics. That day is far from now, but no matter what you chose I will support you and you will be amazing!

I wish I can protect you from everything. That is something that every parent hopes for. As you are learning to make your way in the world, I am learning to let go. So I can only hope, wish and pray that your dad and I have done our job and have instilled in you what you need to make it. Looking back at these past 8 years, I think we are all off to a good start.

I love how you are my little rule follower. It makes my life easier at times, and it makes your teachers’ lives easier, too.

I love your sense of style. Even though you and I don’t share the same love to everything glittery and covered with sequins.

I want you to be happy. I pray that you will be healthy. I hope you know that you are loved – always.
