Pretty Party | Mama J + Baby M

13.7.12

It’s Friday, my friends. Who doesn’t love a Friday?!? I’m hoping I can give you another reason to love this day – by sharing this super sweet, baby shower for Mama J + Baby M.

Like most of the parties I’ve shared here, it was a labor of love. I’m not sure where or when it started. But every time there is an important event or milestone in our family, the cousins (Crafty Cousins Creative) band together to help make that event even more special. Whether it’s creating beautiful invitation suites for weddings, baking delicious cupcakes for birthdays, cooking amazing food for showers, or crafting beautiful little details every type of party in between. Together we can always make anything better and more beautiful.

Sisterly Bond | I couldn’t resist capture this moment while we said a little blessing.

The Milk Bar | Ruffled cake stands, blue suitcases (source) and mini paper fans + homemade Momofuku Milk Bar Cookies (cookbook).

Details | Labels to match the invitation + Blueberries and Cream Cookies (recipe).

Food | Honey Lime Chicken Skewers (recipe). YUM!

Details | DIY Stained Mason Jars (tutorial) + original geo painting by my little sister.

And lastly, how adorable are the Lolas (Tagalog for Grandmother)!?! They seriously LOVED these photo props. I think they had more fun with than the younger set did!

This is where we got our sense of family from, these ladies. They’ve taught us that family always sticks together and helps each other out. Thankfully, we’ve been blessed many times over, so we’ve only had to help each other with fun, beautiful, and joyous occasions – like this shower. But I know that even when we face super hard times, we will always be there for each other. I mean if we can make parties like these happen, only imagine what we can do!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Andrea

Crafting | DIY Ombre` Napkins

3

20.4.12

Happy Weekend’s Eve!  Our first week back to normal (the kiddos were on Spring Break last week) has come and gone.  It’s pretty amazing fast it goes when you are running around all over the place – haha.  After all is said and done, it is so nice to be back to busy.  Sounds crazy, I know.

And to finish the week off, I thought something crafty was in order.  Which is perfect because it is our turn to host ‘Supper Club’ – super excited for that!  We’ll be having a Mexican themed meal with carnitas and black bean soup, just to name a couple dishes.  So I wanted to create something bright and festive for the table.

Dip-dyed Ombre` Napkins seemed perfect!

They didn’t turn out exactly the way I wanted them to.  But you know what?  I’m okay with that because I can foresee this being something that I will be doing quite often in the future.  Practice makes perfect, right?  For a first, not too bad.

Here’s what you’ll need:

- plain white table napkins (mine were from Target).
- fabric dye, the powder kind.
- jar/bucket.
- warm water.
- wooden clothes pins, the kind that you hang laundry with. So your fingers don’t get messy.
- baking rack, the kind that you use to put your cookies on.
- rimmed baking sheet.

How:

- fill your container of choice with warm water and fabric dye, less is more when adding the dye.
- quickly dip your fabric as high as your want the color to go. Repeat as many times as it takes for your to achieve the lightness that you want.
- add more dye
- dip the fabric again, but this time a couple inches below the original dip-line.
- repeat the last two instructions until you achieve the ombre` you want.

What I’ve learned from this DIY:

- only add a teeny, tiny bit of powder. That way you can create a more gradual ombre`.
- use a container with a big enough opening so that you don’t have to fold your fabric too many times. This will give you a straight ombre` line.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Andrea

Have any of you seen that holiday image floating around Facebook and Pinterest?  You know, the Nordstrom one where they explain why you will not find Christmas trees and Christmas music in their stores because they like to take things one holiday at a time?  Well that’s the way we like to do it here too, one holiday at a time.

I’ve been doing pretty well, focusing on Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving with my family.  But this is definitely getting me into the gift-giving mood!

Crafting | Thankfulness

10.11.11

Hello, friends.  I’m happy that you decided to stop by today.  The way I see things, there is no better time to start a family tradition than now.  Last year, our family made an Advent Tree during Christmas time.  We hung little tags with different things to do during the Advent season.  For us, it was a great way to shift the conversation over to what can we do for others, what are simple things we can do to celebrate the upcoming birth of Jesus, what is something fun we can do as a family, and away from “I want this, this and this.”

The kids had a great time coming up with the different activities to write onto the cards, it was really a fun experience for everyone.  Each day a different person would pick from the tree and that was the activity that we all did together.

Looking back at the year, we have had our ups and downs as a family.  But through it all, we are incredibly blessed.  It is something that I want to hammer into my children – just how blessed we all are.  So when the kids get home from school this will be waiting for them.

I am still unsure of how we will go about the ‘thankful’ process.  But I am sort of leaning towards everyone, Mom + Dad included, will write one thing they are thankful for each day.  By Thanksgiving, I’m hoping we’ll have a whole tree of gratitude!  I will share a photograph of our Thankful Tree in a few days.
