Awfully quiet. Almost maybe too quiet. After 12 years, Eugene and I finally went on a trip. By ourselves. Not ourselves and the baby. Just Eugene and Andrea. It was awesome! Last week, we explored the beautiful island paradise of Maui, ate too much meat and carbs, laughed with good friends that we haven’t seen in a while, and also did a whole bunch of nothing and got a tan while doing it! AND the reason for our island getaway, we got to witness the marriage of two of our dear friends.

It was everything I thought a vacation sans-kids would be. We got to eat at a normal pace. We didn’t have to constantly count the kids as we make our way through a crowded public space. The only problem we had to solve was where to eat. We both missed the kids like crazy. But as we settle into our normal everyday routines, we are recharged, more relaxed and maybe a little more patient with one another.

It’s got me thinking. We should make a habit of getting away. It doesn’t always have to be Maui. But just some time away, just the two of us. That would be perfect.
